DAY AND NIGHT: throughout the day, Scout’s Gotcha Backpack in Indigo Go will be your best bud, before you go out to meet your best buds! in due time, after some hours of class and studying, you’ll still love being in white denim, accented with your blue and yellow color story… we love Seven For All Mankind’s Straightleg Jean, but another great option is Joe’s Micro Flare Skinny Fit; Trina Turk’s Fernanda Top is easy, breezy, and in a sunny color that pops; pair with fun accessories, at left is Avante Et Pres’ Yellow and Blue Torsade Necklace, and at right is French Sole’s Stoned Peep Toe Flats, great for daytime and nighttime look’s!

Delighting in Denim: Jet-Setter at the Airport July 28, 2011

YOUR AIRPORT ACCESSORIES: wear sensible yet utterly chic shoes, we love Sam Edelman’s Alvin Smoking Flats; take along Ralph Lauren Collection’s Patent Leather Belt, which will dress up a jeans and tee look; pack items into Scout’s Fast Getaway Roller Bag in Indigo Go (we hear it gets tons of compliments at the airport!)

YOUR AIRPORT LOOK: wear either pair of jeans, we like D&G’s Skinny Ankle Jean, but also love other denim standby J Brand’s Dark Blue Mid-Rise Skinny; a white tee like Vince’s at center packs down to nearly nothing, though will be the perfect airport separate, one comfortable and appropriate across states and continents; always take D&G’s Two-Button wool blazer on your travels, it will quickly become the most versatile item in your closet!

DENIM WITH POPS OF PURPLE: study with the chicest in simplicity… and some color, in this case, pops of purple; take Scout’s Lil Slim Gigah in Indigo Go; wear one of these two perfectly-priced pairs of jeans, either Old Navy’s The Sweetheart Skinny Jeans or Gap’s Real Straight Jeans, both great fits; tuck in Splendid’s White Rugby Stripe Tee; clack around in Funkis Funkis‘ purple suede sandal; another great purple accent is Vogue Eyewear’s Spotted Violet glasses.

Delighting in Denim: Indigo Go on a Road Trip July 26, 2011

Filed under: fashion — Deb Johns @ 7:13 am

LOOK 1, CLASSIC YET CAREFREE: for your cross country road trip, wear comfortable clothes that you can take out to dinner, if there’s little time to change… we love Patterson J. Kincaid’s Doheny Tank, a fun tie-dye tank with the added twist of tiered layers; pack items into Scout’s Hilary Duffle; wear Top Shop’s Blue Stripe Hi-Tops; for your denim to pair with Scout’s Indigo Go, we love J. Crew’s denim short in ‘Shake It’ wash.

LOOK 2, POLISHED AND PUNCTUATED: pair polished and punctuated pieces in mainly brushed neutrals, with one pop of color, in this case, bright pink; at left are H&M’s black denim cropped shorts; tuck in Equipment’s Signature Sleeveless Blouse, lightweight and breezy, perfect for a road trip; wear TOMS Pink Leopard Vegan Women’s Classics, they’ll complement the pink in Equipment’s blouse; take pics with Pentax’s digital camera at center, one that almost has a retro feel, just the right vibe on driving cross country!

Delighting in Denim: Featuring the Grand Plan July 25, 2011

Filed under: fashion — Deb Johns @ 7:57 am

A NOTE ON DENIM:

“The great thing about denim is that it is timeless yet contemporary, for daytime – and with a switch of a top or accessories – for nighttime. It has great and various price points… The key to looking great in denim is feeling great, making sure your denim fits and is comfortable. (Helpful fit hint: most jeans stretch, so when you try them on, go with the tighter pair, because it will no doubt stretch over time – a symptom of jean fabrics everywhere.) Another great trick is understanding that there is a certain bit of ‘shrinkage’ with denim, so after you wash them, dry them for fewer than 10 minutes then take out to dry – when you hang them, hang them upside down (by the hem), which will help to maintain the length of the jeans as when you first purchased them.”

TO PAIR WITH THE ‘EVERYDAY’ BAG: to go with your Grand Plan in Indigo Go from Scout, we suggest a chic interpretation of the infamous ‘Canadian Tuxedo’ by accenting your paired denim with a pop of one color, and we choose green! for the denim, we look to mid-price Americana like Rugby, whose Super-Skinny Faded Jean looks great with fellow American brand Levi’s, and we love this Authentic Trucker Jacket above left; for the green, Kookai’s Python-Print Cotton Scarf will come in handy when air-conditioning cools you off a little too much; the striped flats above right from Tapeet by Vinci are just the right ladylike touch for a mostly-denim look.

Queen of the Court: a Day of Tennis July 22, 2011

Filed under: fashion — Deb Johns @ 7:12 am

PREPPY IN PINKS: for your day on the courts, maintain a preppy yet sophisticated look by ditching the pink & green color story for a pink and white color story… to keep warm on a cool morning, we love Juicy Couture’s Original Velour Hoodie, shown here in Bright Rose; play in Stella McCartney for Adidas’ Tennis Dress; wear sensible chic footwear, look to brands like Wilson for functional tennis socks, and, as always, Nike for a well-made pair of tennis shoes, shown here is the Multicourt 9 Women’s Volleyball Shoe, perfect from the volleyball court to the tennis court! finally, crown yourself Queen of the Court with this multi-use ‘tiara’ (read: sequined visor)… whether hitting the slots or hitting the courts, this bright pink scintillating sun shield will always come in handy!

ARRIVING IN STYLE: for your gear, Penn makes its cannister of tennis balls in a pink version to benefit breast cancer research; pair with a pink tennis racket from Wilson, a brand name mainstay on the courts, generation after generation; finally, tote gear and a swimsuit for a post-game dip in either Scout’s Duflex or Stow N’ Go, both shown here in Pink Lady.

The Sophisticated Workout: City Gym Day July 21, 2011

Filed under: fashion — Deb Johns @ 7:12 am

YOUR KEY STYLE PIECES: for the sophisticated workout we love a black and white color story with pops of purple… look to online sites City Sports and Paragon Sports for the best in workout gear! we like Adidas’ Elite V-Neck Tee made with ever-important sweat-wicking fabric; the 2XU Elite Compression Tight is perfect for high-impact sports and training because it’s designed to complement your muscles’ movements (and looks chic!); for shoes, as usual we look no further than Nike, and for this workout we’re loving their Free TR Women’s Fit Training Shoe; for toting a change of clothes or any of the goods below, Scout’s Stow N’ Go and / or the Duflex in Scout Signature is both stylish and functional, from the office or home to the gym.

YOUR KEY WORKOUT PIECES: for your actual workout (and not using the gym as your runway, though we wouldn’t blame you, chic thang!) look for easy to use and easy to carry pieces… Target sells Reebok’s Hand Weights, available in various poundage; the Go Fit yoga mat below left is great not only for yoga and pilates but especially as a convenient stretching mat pre or post-workout; in the realm of training, stability balls are one of the most efficient ways to engage your muscles, and we love SPRI’s 55cm one in light grey, a complementary color to the richer purples you’ll be exhibiting; finally, the Thera Foam Roll below will serve as another handy tool for stretching and for certain resistance training.
