I don’t know about y’all, but I was ready to tell 2018 to not let the door hit them on their way out last Monday. This said, last week Deb, Erin, and I took a beat to brainstorm/ rant about our hopes, dreams, and aspirations for 2019. I couldn’t be more amped for the new year and the shiny new breadcrumbs of positivity and possibility 2019 is laying out for us. Follow the breadcrumbs, people! It’s time to rise, grind, and get that new year bread. Our first savory loaf of New Year’s inspiration is a warm list of our top trending travel destinations. You only 2019 once, so let’s get going and GET IT.
Now, don’t you worry your pretty, little baby New Year head, because we’ve got a flavor for just about every travel palate. If there’s one thing we love at SCOUT Bags HQ, it’s options—for EVERY body. For those of you portenos who are intrigued by people like, Evita Peron, and meat so rare and savory it comes out mooing, book your flight into Ezeiza International Airport inmediatamente.
See: Visit Recoleta Cemetery. Humble-brag warning: When I lived in Buenos Aires, the Recoleta Cemetery was my favorite place to stroll and write in my journal after school. It’s especially resplendent at dusk and truly magical. The tombs of Eva Peron, former presidents, and Nobel Prize Winners line the pathways of this massive and architecturally rich burial ground. It reminded me of the St. Louis Cemetery in New Orleans—cool parallel!
Explore: Spend an afternoon walking around in the Palermo Soho. Palermo Soho, one of the hippest hoods in BA, is a highly popular among the expat scene, so I of course, frequented its boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and bars. This way, I could rest my noggin and speak in English but also feel like a chic community member. It’s also a little quieter and secluded with more trees, old houses converted restaurants and stores, and an overall bohemian feel, which I deeply enjoy.
Eat: Amazing meat at a La Carnicería, because meat is important (so are vegetables, but we’re in the grass-fed capital of the universe, so let’s get real, please). This place has ALL the sweet Argentine meats. We’re talking milanesa, lomo, chorizo—you name it. I’m frothing at the mouth as I type.
If you want to keep it stateside (and also groovy as all get out), you’ve got to go to the Big Easy. Now, I’m not suggesting coming in spicy hot out the gate and booking an AirBnb for Mardi Gras, because that takes high level stamina and cajun bandwidth. No, no, dear reader. You can have the TIME of your life on any old weekend in the NOLA, so, honestly, I may suggest springtime (I feel like this is a pretty safe time to travel anywhere).
See: A jazz mass
Eat: More meat at Toupes
Explore: Take a picnic to the Fly
BYOBike, because the Netherlands are where it’s at, if you’re interested in cycling, the Girl With the Pearl Earring, intricate canal systems, or bathhouses converted micro breweries. Amsterdam is not only beautiful and pleasant, but it’s also chocked full of some of the dreamiest art museums. Plus, this is the place to make carb dreams
See: An exhibit at the Van Gogh Museum or Electric Ladyland (dreamy fluorescent art)
Explore: Albert Cuypmarkt
Eat: The carb-heavy treasure that is patatje oorlog
If you enjoyed our diverse and delicious spread of travel goals for 2019, then tune in next week for our food fantasies. Food is important, and we often don’t enjoy GOOD food enough, so let’s get on that and get right for the New Year. Ya heard?
