Yo Deb readers, welcome to the sixteenth installment of our weekly newsflash for all things up-and-coming, ‘Wednesday Obsessions’. We are excited to bring you the latest info on people, places and things being discussed around the world and around the world wide web. Start following us to receive an email each week when a new W.O. post is published!

We suggest that while you are rearranging or changing up the items in your wardrobe from summer to fall that you consider adding one or two new pieces to the area in and around your closet or bedroom… introduce a little fashion to function!

Pieces, clockwise from top left: CB2 Infinity Standing Mirror – sleek in design and it will capture your whole look! Kikkerland Sliced Grandfather Clock, available online at Mxyplyzyk - you can keep checking where you are in getting dressed as it relates to getting out the door on time… ready in less than 20 minutes? success! The Container Store Black Huggable Hangers (in black and ivory) – a must-have for any woman with a ‘delicates’ load in her washer; SCOUT Hang-10 Bins in new patterns Got Damask and Foxy Brown – they can store hangers, back-up lint rollers, shoe polish or anything of the ‘care’ kind; Alexandra Ferguson Je T’aime Pillow – for a chic black & white accent; Le Corbusier Outdoor LC8 Swivel Stool, available online at Design Within Reach - sit in front of the mirror comfortably and stylishly with this crisp white stool; SCOUT Trash Cache in new pattern Got Damask – stack blankets in this handy column, or pile up ‘dry clean only’ items for one big trip to the cleaners; Hermes Signature H Blanket in Ecru/Black – the timeless piece in your bedroom or closet, forever chic; SCOUT Junque Trunk in new pattern Foxy Brown – when you want less dialogue, stash your Alexandra Ferguson pillows in here; Alexandra Ferguson I Live for This Pillow - kitschy and just the right amount of irreverence, a Deb favorite!

A Special Feature on Dorm Room Essentials: a Multicolor Story, a Black & White Story August 15, 2012

The time has come, and back to college is here! Today we’re obsessing over redecorating our dorm rooms (since we didn’t have all this fab gear when we were in college)!

A MULTICOLOR STORY

We started with this beautiful bedspread from Dwell Studio which has the perfect balance of white + color…and just so happens to perfectly compliment the colors of our Flashback Paisley Hang-10 and mirrors the wavey design of The Hills Junque Trunk.

We think every college girl needs to work hard and play hard. The FoFlor ‘Keep Calm and Party On’ accent rug reinforces this ideology with its easygoing machine-washable nature, ideal for a dorm room. While getting ready for a big night out, this Urban Outfitters iHome can rock the tunes (but don’t get a sound violation!). And, most important, to avoid your dorm’s fluorescent lighting, we push good lighting with this PBTeenFrayed Frond Shade. And no dorm room would be complete without an Anthropologie mirror for primping for day to night.

Sigh…we wish we were still in college! See how it came together below.

A BLACK & WHITE STORY

While we love pink, sometimes a more neutral palette can be the perfect dorm room solution as well. Again, we were inspired by a comforter! Anthropologie’s Jacquard patterned bedding is the perfect place to study or to sleep. After a good snooze in this bed, you can awake refreshed and analyze your lack of dark circles in this  West Elm lacquer vanity mirror.

While this room will be a ‘subtle sanctuary’, you still have to have a few pops of color to be negate the “Morticia Adams” effect. FoFlors Racey Lacey Runner offers you just enough color with the pink border and offers a worry-free floor covering solution being machine washable. To complement the pop of pink, we incorporated our Hang-10 bin  in Black Swan Paisley, which features a cute pink interior so black ballpoints don’t get lost so easily. O Lighting’s floor lamp is a sleek and sophisticated lamp to keep you up way after the sun goes down; to counter that we have the Mxyplyzyk bubble clock to make sure you are up and on your way to class come morning!

The last two finishes to the dorm room would be a “mother’s touch,” because no matter how old we are, we still need a mom’s advice! Can’t you hear that voice saying, “Eat Your Veggies?” Alexandra Ferguson put it perfectly on a pillow! Finally, a great mom would gift you with Jonathan Adler’s black frame to keep a picture of the family closeby!

See below what we think Morticia might have appreciated in college more than her (presumed) all-black dorm room…

Pattern & Color Inspiration: Nautical Stripes July 20, 2012

THE CONCEPT:

SCOUT debuted a new nautical stripe this season in our ‘Barbara Stripesand’ color combos, where new scales of stripe are introduced into one striping combination. We love the linear effect this pairing maintains, and it offers a contemporary take on the classic Brittany stripe exhibited in our beloved True Brit pattern.

STRIPINGS FOR SPRING/SUMMER:

Clockwise from top left: Tibi Striped Crepe Tank; Smythe Stripe Blazer; J. Crew Nautical Stripe Short; Cath Kidston Aqua Stripe Cotton Jacquard Bath Towel; Hable Construction Rose Stripe Pure Light Weight Linen Pillow; Designers Guild Blue Stripe Tableware; Company Store Cabana Stripe lightweight Down Comforter in Navy.

Pattern & Color Inspiration: Paisley July 19, 2012

THE CONCEPT:

Paisley arrived in all its shapes & sizes this season – no tear-drop was left behind! We love the bold combinations on one end, in a multicolor, and then on the other end, in black & white with one other color. One of the best attributes of paisley in the home is that it always looks chic when mixed with other patterns  - it’s a fantastic color blast or a neutral complement to the other pieces in a room.

PAISLEY THIS SEASON:

Clockwise from top left: Giambattista Valli Paisley-Jacquard Skirt; C. Wonder Paisley Apron; Etro Stripe and Paisley Scarf; Hable Construction Pink Paisley/Oyster Linen Pillow; Jil Sander Paisley-Printed Cotton Dress; Urban Outfitters Painted Paisley Tapestry; Stella McCartney Paisley-Print Stretch-Crepe Shorts; Anthropologie Paisley Shadow Sheet Set.

Pattern & Color Inspiration: Vertical Stripes July 17, 2012

CAPRI STRIPE IS ON-TREND:

We love the vertical stripes concept in SCOUT’s Capri Stripe pattern, which showcases a color-and-white combination… Now turn your eye to two and sometimes three color-and-white mixings. The direction of this stripe is what distinguishes it from being categorized as ‘nautical’ (more on that stripe to come).

CAPRI STRIPE ENCOURAGED:

Clockwise from top left: Kathryn Ireland Pink Stripe Moroccan Throw; Ralph Lauren Home Caribbean Stripe Beach Towel; 59 Seconds Striped Drop-Waist Chiffon Dress; TopShop Moto Ice Stripe Hot Pants; Motel Jordan Skinny Jean; Jonathan Adler Green and Natural Dog Bowl; Cuiora Paper Bowl; Harry Barker Small Rectangle Hemp Stripe Bed.

BOCA IS RIGHT ON TREND:

This season we saw lots of ikat dyes on clothing and homewares… A pattern trend that will no doubt continue into fall/winter 2012, the ikats and dots and flamestitch dying methods are perfect for punching up the pattern in your look on the street or in the home. As Deb notes, “this look mixes well with paisleys and stripes”, so to the bolder set, we say Go for it!

BOCA ENCOURAGED:
