Wednesday Obsessions: Whatever We Like, Whenever We Like It

Yo Deb readers, welcome to the second installment of our weekly newsflash for all things up-and-coming, ‘Wednesday Obsessions’. We are excited to bring you the latest info on people, places and things being discussed around the world and around the world wide web. Start following us to receive an email each week when a new W.O. post is published!

FASHION FLASH, NYC & DC: Hache, an Italian brand known for its neutral-with-bright mixes, can be purchased at both the DC and NYC Muleh store locations. Acne, a Stockholm-based brand that has grown increasingly popular in the US for its sportswear and denim items, will be open a large SoHo store at 33 Greene Street this month. Fashion figure Martin Cooper, who helped re-launch Burberry as the leader for classic-meets-contemporary outerwear pieces back in the 90s to 2000, was tapped last year to design high-performance outwear company Belstaff’s autumn 2012 collection; the Belstaff name first became famous for motorcycle and military jackets, and under Cooper’s latest collection the womens pieces feature interesting new fabric combinations that maintain the perfect amount of luxe-legacy connected to the Belstaff name.

NYC GO-SEE: There is a Mother’s Day Weekend Garden Party at the NY Botanical Garden; this coming weekend be sure to check out the Richard Avedon photography opening at NYC’s Gagosian Gallery, running May 3rd through July 12th. Yo Deb featured Richard Avedon’s tome Made in France as a perfect gift option in this end of year post.

DC GO-SEE: this weekend the National Cathedral will host Flower Mart, where Bungalow will have a tent selling some of your favorite pastime SCOUT patterns! The theme is Jamaica. Check out an older post on the Cathedral here on Yo Deb. Also this weekend plan to come hungry to the Foodtruck Festival at DC’s RFK Stadium. Click into this post from Yo Deb where we put a spotlight on food trucks popping up.

SAN FRAN MUST-TRY: to cleanse and detox from the cupcake-induced coma of late, look no further than San Franciso’s Juice to You for a refreshing new juice stop; check out Refinery 29’s feature and Juicy to You’s cool web site here. Check out some of Deb’s fave places for dinner in San Fran here.

PHILLY FASHION & EATS: Inspired by the falafel crawl once seen on Bethenny Frankel’s Bravo show, we find ourselves eager for a grub crawl, and where better to do this than Philadelphia… Thanks to chefs Jose Garces and Stephen Starr, the city has become an amazing new hub for restaurants, and we’re bringing you an ‘appetizer portion’ of some favorites – Alla SpinaRoute 6JamoneraLoco Pez. In fashion news, whimsical clothing brand Free People has a flagship store in Philadelphia on Walnut Street. Check out a Philly food shout out on Yo Deb here.

FASHION FLASH, GLOBAL: the East-meets-West mash-up heating up fashion: designers include Phillip Lim, Peter Som, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Joseph Altuzzarra, Derek Lam, Prabal Gurung. Other notables include Zang Toi, who made a cameo on the RHNY when Jill Zarin hosted a show at his atelier; Doo Ri’s purple jersey gown FLOTUS (Michelle Obama) wore back in 2011 to a State dinner at the White House; lastly, though technically first in the lineup of influential East-meets-West  designers, Anna Sui, who has a new book for the young aspiring fashion designer called Fashion Idea.  Visit past Yo Deb posts where we featured some of these designer’s pieces here, here, and here.

FOR THE ‘INDOOR’ CREW: If you’re trying to stay out of the pollen, consider going indoors to see some of the latest movies to hit theatres… our staff has loved 21 Jump Street and American Reunion. For the indy-minded set, check out Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a documentary about 85 year-old sushi legend Jiro Ono.
