Grecian Influences: Layers

Travels to Greece gave us great insight into the Grecian influences on fashion. Layers are something we love and can attribute to the ancient Greeks.

The best part about layers is they can be dressed up or down. We decided to dress ours down and wear them to cafes in Greece. Layers are perfect for Greece’s outdoor culture centered around the sunny weather.

Right Off the Runway: Grecian Drapes

This week we are focusing on the season-less aspect of fall fashion. Grecian art and culture has been  a huge fashion influence for modern day styles due to the flattering drapery inspired by ancient grecian clothing. Simplicity and function were important for Greek men and women, partially because of the summer heat in Greece. Fabric, typically a light linen, was folded, pleated, and draped around the body to create a tunic like dress that was made to keep cool but look finished. Today, we associate drapery, tunics, and even peplums, which are derived from the Greek peplos or women’s tunics, with Greece and will forever be indebted to Greece for its immense influence on modern fashion.

Just because the Greeks wore drapes for comfort and simplicity doesn’t mean the style is limited to just that. These cocktail dresses are great for a gala or night out on town.

We turned the conference room into a party and celebration space. We must admit…this happens fairly often here at the SCOUT HQ.
We love cake, cupcakes, cake pops, any type of cake really.

Everything was I Love Lucy themed, which we thought was perfectly fitting.

SCOUT’s Birthday Recap

Last Thursday was SCOUT’s 11th Birthday; almost a teenager! For those of you who don’t know the SCOUT story, we will give you a short summary. In the early 2000s, co-founder and creative director, Deb Johns was traveling in Milan when a plaid carryall bag caught her eye. It didn’t take long for Deb to formulate the idea for SCOUT, which was to create fun, functional, and affordable tote bags for women and families. The brand is named after Ben and Deb’s beloved dachshund who lives up to his now iconic name. SCOUT has since grown to include an array of bags, accessories, and even rugs.

The iconic man himself.

We couldn’t resist. Isn’t he the cutest?

Such a great motto to live by in our opinion.
We couldn’t celebrate without cake and wine.

This cake was to die for; we had to go in for a second slice. If you want to try out our recipe see below. We highly suggest it!

Not a baker? That’s okay! This cake requires minimal baking skills and ingredients so it’s great for cooks of all stages.
We had so much fun celebrating SCOUT! But we like to think of everyday as a party here at the SCOUT HQ in Georgetown so we would like to believe this soirée was nothing out of the ordinary. Have some party tips? We would love to here from you!
