Travel Guide: Florida Panhandle

Our Chief Creative Officer, Deb Waterman Johns, and the SCOUT photography team recently traveled to the Florida panhandle for a little photoshoot (keep an eye out for some of the great shots), and we couldn’t be happier to report back on their travels. With all the recent talk of polar vortexes, winter weather warnings, and day after day of gray, everyone was definitely in need of some bright, fresh, and fun spring product and content, so it was only fitting that the team headed to one of the dreamiest destinations this side of the gulf where bare feet and sandy floors rule.

The gang rented a house in WaterSound Beach, an idyllic, beachside neighborhood located on over 256 acres of rolling sand dunes and a mile of beachfront. The location played for the perfect backdrop for our colorful new treasures and as HQ for our hardworking and lively photoshoot squad.

There’s truly nothing sweeter than a sunset+seaside cocktail situation. The team headed to nearby Rosemary Beach for some cocktails and conversation on the rooftop bar at Pescado. A rose-colored view, clams, mussels, and a Cucumber Collins? Count us in.

George’s is a locally-sourced, organically-produced Alys Beach dining gem. The seafood is beyond fresh and delicious. Whether you opt for the lobster quesadilla (actually lobster, crab, and shrimp!), jumbo lump crab and yellow tomato citrus gazpacho, or seared sea scallops, you absolutely cannot go wrong.

We take breakfast uber-seriously at SCOUT, and spots like Black Bear Bread Co. in Grayton Beach are right up our alley. Black Bear has that Nordic flavor that everyone seems to crave these days. Take the savory route with smoked salmon, creme fraiche, and pickled radishes on multigrain, or head in a sweeter direction with banana, whipped ricotta, local honey, mint, chili, and pecans on sourdough. Honestly, it all just sounds too scrumptious.

With locations in Nashville, Atlanta, and an Airstream in Seaside, Florida, Five Daughters Bakery is taking the donut game by land (and sea). Donut options run the gamut from staple flavors to seasonal, paleo, and yeast raised flavors, and of course, they’ve also got cookies and other pastries. Whatever floats your sweet tooth boat, Five Daughters is doing everything right. Also, beachside a donut? Genius.

Pickle’s Beachside Grill in Seaside is THE place to go after you’ve spent a long day in the warm, panhandle sun. Wet or dry, saunter up to the pick-up window in your bathing suit and towel, and they’ll happily get you just what the doctor ordered. We’d suggest fried pickles, margarita, repeat.

We 10/10 recommend calling up our culinary buddies, Chef Richard McCord and Chef Ryan McNay, of Marrow Private Chefs. They will woo you, charm you, and prepare the most decadent charcuterie “this side of the Mississippi,” as our Media Manager, Megan Principe, boasted. You will adore this private chef duo and their palate-pleasing cuisine.

If you want to kick off spring right, treat yourself to something bright, like any of our newest bags, accessories, coolers, or storage from our Spring 2019 Collection. They’ll make you want to swan dive into the nearest swimming pool—granted, we’d recommend one that’s heated.
